What is Seer English?

Seer English is a platform for live online tutoring that connects English language tutors to English language students in China.

What do I need to become a tutor on Seer English?

In addition to relevant qualifications, you need to be 18 years of age or older.

Are there other requirements?

Yes. In addition to a computer, you will need a reliable high speed internet connection and a quiet workspace with adequate lighting.

What are the system requirements?

Our system requirements are as follows:

  • CPU: At least PC-500 Mhz (1Ghz Recommended), or Mac-Intel Only
  • RAM: At least 1.0 GB of system memory
  • Display / Video Card: Capable of at least a 1024 x 600 resolution and 16-bit color
  • Input & Output: Webcam
  • Audio device: A working headset and microphone, or in-ear headphones with mic
  • Internet: High speed internet access. Broadband – download speed of at least 20 Mbps, upload speed of at least 2 Mbps
  • Word Processing: Microsoft Office 2007 or later, PDF Reader / Viewer
  • OS: Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.
  • If you work on a Mac (at least a Mac OS 10.5.8) and you’re able to run Windows applications

Where can I tutor from?

You may work from your home office anywhere as long as you have access to a reliable high speed internet connection and a quiet workspace.

When are tutoring services provided?

To become an online English tutor with Seer English, you will be in higher demand if you can make yourself available on a fixed weekly schedule (that you set) for at least 40 consecutive weeks (10 months), and must be available for at least 10 hours every week during these peak time as shown below in Beijing, China Time:
Please note there is no time difference between summer and winter for Beijing Time and all the students' bookings are based on Beijing Time, so if there is time difference between summer and winter in your area, you have to double confirm the time slots you set are good for both summer and winter.

Will I be able to set my own hours?

Yes. As a tutor you will be able to set your own hours and students will only be able to book time slots which you make available.

How long does each tutoring session last?

We offer session of 25 minutes. Our two consecutive 25 minute sessions (50-minute no break) are the most popular selection among older students, and our sessions of 25 minute are usually preferred by parents of younger children.

How much time do I need to commit to tutoring?

As our courses can extend in length anywhere from 5 months to 10 months, we ask all tutors to commit to at a fixed schedule (that you set) for at least 40 consecutive weekly sessions. (10 months).

Do courses have a fixed start date?

No. Sessions begin on the start date of your choice.

How much does it cost to join?

Using Seer English as a tutor is completely free.

How long does it take to have my application approved?

After you have submitted your fully completed Tutor Profile, the approval process should not take 1~5 business days.

How much are tutors paid?

Tutor are paid up to $25 CAD per hour. This includes a personalized feedback report that tutors are required to submit immediately following the session.

How will I receive payment?

You will receive payments through PayPal every two weeks after your tutoring session.

What are other benefits of being a tutor with Seer English?

We can help formally document the teaching experience you gained through Seer English. Upon request, we'll provide you with a certificate that confirms your active tutoring hours.
